VIRTUAL TOUR OF THE LOST ENTERTAINMENT VHS STORE

As of next month the store will be releasing old school VHS videos for sale. Many years ago I purchased many VHS videos from a local video store for next to nothing as they were being replaced by the mighty DVD. When DVD was introduced at the end of the 90's you would find advertisements like this when you played a new VHS video.

After witnessing such adverts the sheep of society decided that all VHS tapes must be destroyed and nothing is clearer than DVD blah blah etc..

So the terrified public decided to wipe VHS off the face of the Earth..

not even 10 years later this happened

So after all that I guess they all got bumped like suckers as DVD was not the clearest thing ever like they said. However there were some warriors like myself and another minority who still treasured their VHS tapes and never gave in to the VHS holocaust which happened soon after the DVD invasion.

VHS tapes are still amazing quality and thanks to the design of their durable cases the cassettes inside have hardly any signs of damage or wear. Not just that but the VHS cover designs are just incredible and are much better than the crappy photoshopped efforts that grace the DVD/BLU RAY covers of re released movies.

Yes you have to rewind and you cant skip chapters but thats the only real drawback and is something that is more than livable. Most VHS DVD combo machines that are released now days will have a faster motorized rewinding mechanism wheel that can rewind a 2 hour film in under a minute.

The beginning trailers and adverts on old VHS tapes are just pure class and are always a nice extra also. Now today I will be going through the 500 plus tapes I own and showcasing the more interesting items. Many of these items and more will be going online next month for you to purchase and enjoy!

ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13
Classic ultra violent movie from John Carpenter in which criminals attack a police station and a kid gets shot in the face at an ice cream truck.

A FIST FULL OF DOLLARS
Classic Clint Eastwood Spaghetti Western.

AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON
This was the first release of the movie on VHS in the Uk by a company called channel 5. This is such a cool cover and I have had this video since I was a kid. I remember picking it up and just being in awe of the images on the cover and on the back of the case.
I got my mum to buy it for me and there was no argument at all from her. It was kind of like that back in the day parents never really cared what their children were watching in terms of mass gore and violence. However anything that involved tits being revealed was a no no. I remember having my Road House tape confiscated by mum as it had loads of scenes of tits. However I was allowed to watch movies of people being chopped up, decapitated, blown up, sodomized, set on fire and eaten alive. So I suppose there was a sort of line in viewing discipline going on at my house. It was kind of like the same guidelines as youtubes video policy I guess. Violence and strong language are fine but if I see one video with a pair of tits or a vagina then this video is gutting locked down. Funny thing was An American Werewolf in London had loads of sexy bits and even a bit where the Werewolf goes berserk in a porn theatre in the middle of Piccadilly Circus.

A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: The Dream Warriors
This was one I finally ended up buying from VID BIZ when it was doing the VHS to DVD change over for next to nothing. However from 1994-1997 this was a movie me and my friends would rent all the time from there. So I (or more like my mother or any other adult we could get) would rent a copy of this movie quite often and  probably spent more than £50 renting this tape between us. The cover is a hand painted picture of Freddy wearing an overcoat which looks so fucking cool. This is one of my favorite movies from the series. That bit when slam that bitches head through the TV still makes me crease up to this day.

Classic first movie from the Aliens franchise. This one is more of a horror movie and is kind of like the Terminator in the fact it is always overlooked by its more action packed sequel. The original Terminator and Alien movies were a lot more darker and filled with suspense.

A CLOCKWORK ORANGE
I remember going into Woolworths in Debden in mid 2000 picking a copy up of this movie and purchasing it. It seemed like a big deal at the time as this movie had been banned for like forever. One of the coolest movies ever made and comes in a card case with reflective lettering.

A SENSE OF FREEDOM
True story about a Scottish gangster and it is one of the most violent films you will ever see. In one scene he covers himself in his own shit to stop the prison guards from giving him a kicking. Really under rated movie and something which is definitely worth a watch.

THE BEST OF MARTIAL ARTS
This is a movie in which John Saxon presents the greatest scenes of martial arts movies from the begining right up to 1990. This is basically a movie full of kung fu which cuts out the plot and just has an hour or so's worth of the best scenes of Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Keith Cook, Cynthia Rotherrock, Samo and many more top class actors.

Braindead
New Zealand classic zombie comedy flick which has some of the best gore you will ever see in your life. Zombies have sex then have a zombie baby, an old woman eats a dog and her own ear, a baby in a blender and amazing climax scene with involves taking zombies out with a lawn mower. Master piece by Peter Jackson of Lord of the Rings fame.

Easily one of the sickest movies ever made.

THE BLOB
Never watched this so don't know if its any good. I am guessing it is about a giant blob that kills people or a movie about living with a woman who is having the period from hell.

BACK TO THE FUTURE TRILOGY
The Back to the Future VHS collection. I love the first one and the second but never liked the third very much. I am sure this has been released on Blu Ray like everything else has with never before seen footage of Christopher Lloyds ball sack or some shit.

4 FRONT VIDEOS BRUCE LEE COLLECTION
Unfortunately this is the more rubbish version of the Bruce Lee collection on VHS. Originally the Bruce Lee VHS collection were in cool white boxes with a funny picture of Bruce Lee's head on the spine. The thing that pisses me off, is that I had to purchase the shitty Game of Death II tape which doesn't even have Bruce in the movie. Lots of these shit films were released after Bruce died and even the Game of Death movie only has a few real scenes of Bruce Lee. These movies were heavily cut due to that gay nunchuck rule that the BBFC enforced for many years. Pick up the DVD boxset of these to see what you have been missing all these years. Yes I did just praise DVD!

THE BLACK PANTHER
True story of one of Britains most famous serial killers. Amazing box art and you can even see a bit of nipple on the blonde chick.

BLADE RUNNER
Classic sci fi action thriller which is very under rated.

THE CROW
One of the coolest comic movies ever made and Brandon Lee's finest moment.

CROCODILE DUNDEE
Classic 80's comedy about an Australian idiot living in New York. The bird in this film (Sue) is another weird crush of mine.

COBRA
Classic cheesy 80's cop flick where Sylvester Stallone puts criminals on hooks and eats pizza with scissors. I love this movie and Stallones views of shooting and beating up anyone who doesn't behave!

CLIFFHANGER
Another Stallone classic with some of the most awesome stunts ever filmed. After Point Break made it big lots of movies about sky diving, climbing stuff and being "extreme" were to follow.

DUNE
This is a copy of the Sci Fi movie Dune which I have never watched.

DAWN OF THE DEAD
This is the 4 Front video release of Dawn of the Dead. This is my favorite cover/poster of Dawn of the Dead. This movie is probably my most favorite movie ever made. However this tape may have an awesome case but the tape inside is the rubbish European cut of the movie which has most of the great gore scenes scrubbed out.
The back of the case has some great screen shots and upon viewing just the box alone I knew this would be my favorite movie of all time. There was a time in the late 90's where this movie was almost impossible to get. A directors cut was released in 1998 which had all of the original gore scenes included.

DEATH WISH III
Before Frank Castle was kicking ass as the Punisher a guy called Paul Kersey was dropping criminal scumbags nationwide. Charles Bronson returns to the streets of New York to take out the street gangs that terrify the projects. Amazing gore and action I fucking love Death Wish movies! Jimmy Page from Led Zep provides the musical score also.

DEMONS 2
Amazingly entertaining sequel from Lamberto Bava and Dario Argento. Have had this movie since I was a kid and I still think its awesome and check the back cover to see if you recognize anything.
Yup its the evil demon bitch from the site banner. This movie has some amazing special effects and make up. The transformations are amazing and there are buckets full of action and violence.

EXTERMINATOR AND EXTERMINATOR II
Classic 80's vigilante movies which feature a guy with a welding mask and a flame thrower.

EVIL DEAD
The first VHS release of Evil Dead. A lot of people say that number 2 is the best but I will always be loyal to the first movie. It was darker and a woman got raped by a tree!
The back of the Evil Dead case had no images which made it look even more violent and terrifying.

EATEN ALIVE.
Another Cannibal cash in which followed after the release of Cannibal Holocaust.
Back cover of Eaten Alive.

THE EXORCIST
This was another movie like Clockwork Orange that I felt odd buying when it was released as it had been banned for what seemed like forever. I am an Atheist but I pretend to believe in God and the Devil only when I watch this movie. I have the Exorcist III in my collection which is pretty decent to be fair, unlike the awful second movie.

DAY OF THE DEAD GLOW IN THE DARK BIG BOX
This is the big boxed, glow in the dark, video rental version for the UK. Now before I go on I will explain the whole big box thing for anyone who is interested or cares. Big box cassettes were sold to video rental shops so that they could be displayed to attract browsers. When I purchased my old local video stores old VHS tapes many of which were big box ones, so I have quite a few. This one is cool as fuck as it glows in the dark.
The back cover is filled with awesome shots. This is a cut version of the movie which cuts a tiny amount of the hardcore gore scenes but not to the extreme of the Dawn of the Dead VHS release. There are some great trailers at the beginning of some really obscure 80's movies.

DEMOLITION MAN
This was the movie where Sylvestor Stallones character got frozen and when he escaped from the ice he came out ten times more stupid than before. Great 90's sci fi action even if Simon Phoenix looks like Mr. T's love child from the future.

DRAGON: THE BRUCE LEE STORY
Even though this movie was cliche as hell and had many strange dream scenes which made no sense, this movie is fucking awesome. Action packed and has a great musical score.

THE DOORS
While on the subject of cliche big screen biographies they get no bigger than this. Oliver Stones take on the Lizard King and Doors goes down all the expected routes, with an amazing lead performance by Val Kilmer. You also get to see Meg Ryan with her kit off so thats got to be a winner.

EASY RIDER
People think that Easy Rider is a movie about riding bikes when it is actually more about taking drugs.

FALLING DOWN
Michael Douglas has enough and batters the shit out of Los Angeles in a day of rampage.

FRIDAY THE 13TH CUSTOM MADE CASE
Ok so I had a copy of Friday the 13th but no case. During a lunch time at high school I decided enough was enough and I printed out my own inlay card. It looks ok from the front but when you see the spine and back it is desktop publishing at its very worst.
Awful box art from a 14 year old Kristian Rodriguez. Out of the images I could choose I had to choose 2 screen shots which completely spoil the whole thing. 1 of Jasons mother and another of Jason jumping out of the lake. The other 2 screen shots are of bitches all dead and fucked up so I was kinda halfway there I guess.

GHOSTBUSTERS II & GHOSTBUSTERS
This is a rare one, Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II on one cassette. They have kind of fucked up the box art though as it is "GHOSTBUSTERS II AND CHOSTBUSTERS" not "GHOSTBUSTERS AND GHOSTBUSTERS II" which should be the correct way.

GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY
My favorite Eastwood performance as the man with no name.

THE HOWLING
Amazing 80's Werewolf caper with top notch special effects must have for any Lycanthrope fans.

INDEPENDENCE DAY 3D COVER
Biggest summer blockbuster from 1996 where aliens kick the living shit out of America by blowing everything up in a big way. This VHS has one of them 3d animated covers and a Burger King offer which expired on May 3rd 1997.

Halloween
The undisputed king of the slasher movies in all its VHS glory!

INDIANA JONES TRILOGY BOX SET
Like Back to the Future, I only like the first 2 of these movies/

JAWS 25TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION VHS
Jaws is something I love and something I will be talking a lot about in the up coming summer season articles so stay tuned. This 25th anniversary Jaws VHS has all the extras from the DVD at the end of the tape.

KILLING ZOE
Amazing early effort of Quentin Tarrontino which is about a bank robbery in France. Must see for fans of Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs.

LETHAL WEAPON AND LETHAL WEAPON 2
The good old days of Mel Gibson before he became a real prick. Will they make another movie? or is Danny Glover really "too old for this shit" now?

MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE
Here it is the first movie that ever disappointed me in life, Masters of the Universe. The final nail in the coffin for the He-Man franchise, which features scenes of gay torture and Man at Arms eating fried chicken in a KFC car park.

NINJA KIDS PHANTOM FORCE
One of my holy VHS treasures the Ninja Kids Phantom Force movie. I have reviewed and spoke about this movie in great detail before (click here to read the review of this movie) and even tried uploading a rip of my copy on youtube. However some dick fuck somewhere decided to remove it due to copyright grounds and now even the movie clips from my last review have been removed.
Until the day comes when I can upload this movie again I will not be selling my copy (which is one of the only copies left on this planet) ever.

Night of the Living Dead (COLOR VERSION)
This is a colorized version of the 1968 horror classic. Now do not be fooled by the cover of this video as it is not colored as bad as this. For some reason they thought it would be a good idea to make everyone look green.
Even the people on the back look green as well in this screen shot. I  saw this version of Night of the Living Dead long before I even knew the movie was originally filmed in black and white, so I kinda like this version of the best. Over the years this movie has been released countless times due to it being in public domain.

NAKED GUN
The Naked Gun is the undisputed master of the spoof genre.

NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (REMAKE) AND RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD DOUBLE BOX SET VHS
This is a rare and rather obscure double box set from the mid 90's. The Night of the Living Dead remake was reviewed here recently (click here to read review) and is a great film. Return of the Living Dead is a classic tongue in cheek look at the world of zombies who hunger for brains and more paramedics.
The back covers has some cool screen shots of both movies. While both these movies have the phrase "living dead" in their titles, they are not connected at all.

OZZY OSBOURNE DONT BLAME ME
1991 documentary about the life and antics of Ozzy Osbourne. With input from Lemmy, Alice Cooper, Metallica, Bon Jovi and other great rock stars this is a fun documentary. I have had this video since forever and cannot remember its origin but it has always been around my house since the early 90's.

PLATOON
One of the coolest war movies ever made and is arguably the best movie about the Vietnam conflict.

PULP FICTION
One of the greatest films ever made and in the summer of 1995 I managed to nab a Pulp Fiction movie poster of this cover.

POLICE STORY
Jackie Chans finest hour as he acts and directs one of the greatest action movies ever made. Some of the greatest stunts you will ever see are included in this one, people crashing out of bus windows from the top deck, a car chase that destroys a village and a jump from the top of a shopping center using fairy lights and a glass greenhouse on the ground floor as a landing.

ROAD HOUSE
This is the very VHS cassette which was confiscated by my mother as it had to much tits in it. Road House is a classic movie and with loads of violent bar fights and classic quotes like "I used to fuck guys like you in prison!" this movie is a pure winner.

ROBIN HOOD PRINCE OF THIEVES
In 1991 this movie was impossible to get away from as it was rammed down every throat on the planet. Apart from a decent performance from Alan Rickman this movie is the biggest pile of shit,  which anyone of any intelligence will find it hard to sit through. The fact that everyone in Sherwood Forest speaks in American accents alone is annoying but add, Morgan Freeman casting as the token black guy and Christian Slater's casting because.. well he was popular at the time so that should put some more butts on seats. The best Robin Hood movie ever made was the Disney one.

RAGING BULL
The amazing story of Jake La Motta the greatest boxing movie ever made... well its a close second to Rocky III.

RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD II
The poster of this movie is very much like the one from Fright Night. I have this movie since I was a young kid and its pretty tame compared to the first but I always enjoyed it as kid. Zombies, heavy metal music, and lots of brains make this movie a guilty pleasure of mine.

RUNNING MAN
One of Arnies better movies where he has to kill his way through a reality TV show in the future. Some great Arnie action and quotes in this one.

ROSWELL
Alien invasion flick based on "true events". I have never watched this but I hear it is a very hard to find VHS cassette.

RESERVOIR DOGS
Got this movie and the CD soundtrack for my 12th birthday. I loved going around telling everyone at school about this really cool movie I have where a cop gets his fucking ear hacked off.

ROBOCOP
I fucking love Robocop the movie but the robot himself is a bit of a pussy. He always got all kinds of fucked up and in one movie the bad guys even took him apart and dumped him outside the cop shop. The first Robocop movie is awesome as the satire just oozes out of it the whole way through. The bad guys in the first Robocop are classic from the black dude with the high pitched voice, to the OCP big wig Dick Jones, the ED 209 and of course Clarence Boddiger the coolest mother fucker that ever lived. The VHS version is heavily cut compared to the DVD directors cut.

THIS IS SPINAL TAP
This is a movie that has always kind of puzzled me as I never thought the whole "this one goes to 11" was that funny and still dont. This film has its moments but it really isn't the comedy masterpiece it is made out to be. I thought the Comic Strip's Bad News sketches were far more entertaining and funnier.

SILENCE OF THE LAMBS
The movie that inspired my best friend Jacks favorite party piece.. dancing to Goodbye Horses with his genitals tucked between his legs.

SHOCKER
I remember getting this movie as a Christmas gift in 1997. A horror movie by Wes Craven, with theme music from Paul Stanley and you ask your self what can go wrong? Well seeing as I only watched this movie once on Christmas Day 1997 it must have been a load of shit as I have never made the effort to watch it again.

SCREAM
Speaking of shit Wes Craven films here is another one. When I first saw this movie I liked it but it is what this film did to the horror industry for years to come that makes me mad. Thanks to this movie we were bombarded with shitty knock off slasher movies with Scooby Doo endings for over a decade. Who is the killer? Who gives a cunt!!

THE STREETFIGHTER
Classic movie where Charles Bronson enters the world of bare knuckle boxing. Not to be confused of the weirdo prison inmate or the shit 1995 Street Fighter II movie adaptation.

THE MAKING OF MICHAEL JACKSON'S THRILLER
This is the oldest VHS tape I own. Includes the entire music video and then an hours worth of behind the scenes footage. Some great footage of Rick Baker creating the zombie and werewolf effects.

TAXI DRIVER
A very old and rare version of Taxi Driver.

TEEN WOLF
I have always liked this movie more than Back To the Future. This is a movie I will be talking about in greater detail this summer.

WAYNES WORLD AND WAYNES WORLD 2 BOXSET
These movies are timeless classics but they are a bit far fetched. Who starts a rock show up from the back of their house with a long haired bloke with glasses... Oh yeah I did that once!

ZOMBIE FLESH EATERS
I got this movie as soon as it was released after being banned for like 20 years or some shit. Will be doing a more in depth review this summer. This version is also heavily cut compared the DVD version.

So that is the tour of my VHS collection over I hope you enjoyed it and if you wish to purchase these titles (and more) they will all be available next month in the shop.
